Buni License Policy

Disclaimer

None of this is legal advice and none of it overrides the meaning of specific licenses attached to our software. We're just trying to be helpful and answer questions that you might have, but if you're in doubt, ask a lawyer (IANAL).

General Principles

  1. You are free to use Buni.org software.
  2. You are free to distribute Buni.org software with or without modification.
  3. You must play fair with us -- generally our licenses require you to contribute changes to our software back to the codebase.
  4. You must follow the specific licenses -- generally Free or Open Source licenses -- including reciprocation; in the case of LGPL that means contributing any modified and distributed code from the org.buni package back to us.

Trademark Policy

Buni.org, Buni and Meldware are trademarks of Bunisoft. You may not use our trademarks for your own commercial gain (for example, "Buni Training"). In fact, you may not use our trademarks in any ways that are not righted to you under trademark law -- such as the fair use principle that applies to titles of books. However, you may distribute our software which contains our trademarks without issue. We state this because there are now vendors who require you to remove all of their trademarks before distributing their software. We would actually prefer that you didn't do this. However, in the event that you have significantly modified our source, we would prefer that you contact us before distributing it; we just want to make sure that what you are distributing is still significantly identifiable as our software. We feel like true open source software is a collaborative processm and wish to do whatever is possible to facillitate this collaborative development. For instance, you might have a fix to one of our sources. In that case, it is far easier if it is against the exact same source as is in our repository. If you were to go and massively patch our source to remove all "org.buni" packages or logos, it is likely that something wouldn't line up the same. This would present a headache for you and a headache for us in working together. We feel that it is not in our interests (commercial or otherwise) to work in this fashion.

That being said, there are business elements to Bunisoft. It is not in our interest that you offer official Buni services or pretend to be a Buni Meldware Authorized Trainer, for instance, if you are not in fact such.

We will go to great lengths to prevent you from doing so.

However, if you're interested in being one then please, by all means contact sales@bunisoft.com. We'd love to talk to you! Also, it wouldn't be good if you tried to offer something using our trademarks that wasn't in fact Buni-related. That would be misleading.
